CyberNet: Middle Grades CTE Miami Academy

CyberNet: Middle Grades CTE Miami Academy

Florida International University will be conducting the CyberNet: Middle Grades CTE Miami Academy in the summer of 2023 with the support of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs offered in Miami-Dade County Public School. The CTE CyberNet Miami Academy aims to provide professional development to a cohort of middle school teachers in the areas of cybersecurity and digital forensics.

The training will have teachers attend a two-week hybrid summer session, which will include approximately 80 hours of professional development and resources. This session is designed to increase technical knowledge and assist participants to develop curricula and teaching practices appropriate for their respective classrooms.

Participants will continue this professional development in a nine-month accelerator period throughout the 2023-2024 academic year. The Academy accelerators will provide additional resources and technical assistance to support teachers as they implement their curricula in the classroom.

  • July 10 – July 21: Intensive: exploring lessons with FIU mentor (10 days from 8:00am to 5:00pm)
  • August 22- October 31: Accelerator period (expose students to the lesson plan from the Intensive)

Impact/Goals

This project has a wide-reaching impact on Middle Grade Teachers and aligns with cybersecurity and digital forensics initiatives. Teachers from Miami-Dade Public School System are welcome to apply for the camp. The camp is delivered at no charge to the teachers.
